3.2. Metamosphic rocks

     Metamorphism is a slow process which occurs deep in the Earth.

 

     Metamorphic rocks are formed deep within the Earth by the effects of intense heat

     and pressure on sedimentary, igneous or other metamorphic rocks.

  

     These rocks do not melt, but the minerals inside them are changed by heat

     and pressure. The rocks become hard and compact.

 

     Metamorphic rocks rarely have fossils.
